Editing Your Closet

  • Did you loose weight?, Did you get a new job? Have you become a new mom? Of course, this is NEVER the case, but (asked in whisper), did you gain weight? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then it's time to "Edit" your closet.

Yes, you have to edit, or, take out some things and mix and match with the keeper items.

So, before you go shopping for the latest styles in Military, Safari and Native Chic, What? yeah...eh... Ok, so maybe you will not find inspiration from the runway, but you do need to make room in your closet for what does inspire you.

Maybe it would be easier to get rid of clothing if we got into our minds that our clothes have shelf lives. The thought of our purchases expiring in our possession might make it easier to rethink our choices before we buy them. So add another door to your closet. Your clothes made their Entrance now they need an Exit.

Right? Are you with me? Let's Edit!

Wait, have you ever Edited your closet? Are you a clothing junkie and still have clothing from several decades ago? Each season is a good time to take a look at what you have hanging in front of you each day and remove shirts, pants, dresses, jackets, coats, shoes, scarves and other accessories you have and don't wear anymore.
But what if I want to wear it again?, you say. Let me help you rethink that. It's probably about time to let some things go. It's ok. Really, I'm here for you. Let it gooooo. :)

Here are the Core Rules for Paring Down A Closet:
    1. Get rid of anything you have not worn for at least a year.
    2. Purge clothes that don't fit your lifestyle.
    3. Remove anything, clothes, that carry with them a bad memory.
    4. Now gather the things you need to constantly readjust, (that can be so irritating, right?)

Are you feeling the freedom yet?

Now, make a list of what remains, their colors and take that list with you shopping. Think about asking for a personal shopper or take someone who will look at how pieces you try on, fit. Gather colors that you like and are attractive on you. Also, here's another hint, don't buy at discount stores until you know what you are doing. Sometimes we trade good fit and color for the lower price tag. Instead go get some pieces that you love and will keep because they are classics, made well and look great on you.

Now find a place to donate and consign your old clothes. Tell me if you decide to do this? Any hints on how you shop and remove your old clothes from your closet?
