Mood Management

An Emotional Mind vs. the Wellness Mind

Parents can introduce their children to the concept that their emotional mind can create a negative way of thinking that will keep them stuck into negative reactions to their emotions from others.

When teaching this concept to children, the emphasis is placed on helping them recognize when they are in their "Emotional Mind" with the ultimate goal of learning how to exit from it.
“The emotional mind tends to be very powerful. It reacts very quickly in stressful situations, producing thoughts that are negative and self-defeating. You know that you are in your emotional mind when you feel overwhelmed by emotions and can’t seem to feel better no matter how hard you try,

”Mood Management" Skills To Teach Children and Help them Recognize Their Emotional Mind:

When Children feel: Exasperated; Riled up Behaviors, then Frequent fighting; Substance use/abuse; Self-harm; Arguing; Blaming others; Being defensive; Not doing schoolwork; Throwing things are possible unhealthy outcomes that don't solve the issue and instead make them upset with themselves or others upset with them. These unhealthy outcomes can cause damage to their body, other people or things that they own and like but because they got upset they broke.

Help them recognize their Physical Responses

Tight muscles; Clenched fists; Rapid heartbeat; Increased blood pressure; Sweating; Shaking; Trouble breathing.

Helping children recognize these emotions first and giving them an understanding of how to replace them with positive emotions as tools will open the door for better attitudes that are less defeating. Help children brake the cycle of these negative behaviors and instead help them think of other ways to express themselves that are not damaging and keeping them from a better life.
